These are products that have been used in Tomato Box and are so awesome that I want to make sure you have an easy way to find them.

Water

Near and dear to my heart is clean, comfortable, and sustainable water. This means using the water sources you have, ensuring that it’s safe to use, using products and systems that don’t create additional waste (or at least very, very little), while being easy to use and maintain.

I’ll add to this list as I find more!

Berkey

Whether you’re already using bottled or utility-provided water, it may have more contaminants in it than you’d expect. Even the “good water” we have in my current neighborhood exceeds the contaminant level that I’m comfortable drinking.

Check out your utility-provided water test results: https://www.ewg.org/tapwater/

I highly recommend the Berkey water filtration systems.

Berky Water Filter System
  • They are very easy to assemble.
  • Their filters are good for a high volume of water.
  • The filter systems are suitable for making puddle-water drinkable, so they can handle whatever is in your tap water.
  • Highly recommend the optional fluoride filters for any system you decide on.

There are lots of Berkey options, so take a look around. I have the Travel bundle because the size fits really well in my house and for the amount of clean water I might need at one time.

Eccotemp

There are lots of good options for tankless water heaters, but I wanted to share which one I’m using in my house.

Eccotemp FVI12-LP

Gas is a more-efficient way of heating water than electricity, and I wanted to keep a pretty tight threshold on how much of my resources I use on the regular. So I knew I wanted a gas tankless water heater.

Here are a few things I love about this water heater:

  • It has an electric start (pilot light) and an exhaust fan, so I can exhaust it horizontally instead of straight up through the roof.
  • It only requires a standard 120v power source.
  • It can process up to about 4.0 GPM, which is plenty if you’re only going to have one faucet on at a time.
  • The there are controls for both the amount of gas coming into the unit and the water temperature you desire, along with a small LED display.
  • The installation was super-simple.
  • It’s less than $300 for the unit… which is super-affordable, as far as I’m concerned.
